Initial Thoughts
For this task I was given a few minutes to -without research - name the UK music magazine we knew, this is in the top box. As you can see I didn't know much on the subject. However in the next box I was given two minutes to research current UK music magazines. While doing this I found that a lot of music magazines had either closed down or have decided to be an online magazine. This shows that the demand for music magazines have decreased as technology has advanced.
Then by checking the sales of UK music magazines in 2013-2014 clearly showing how hard the industry has been hit by technology.

Magazine "Market" Research
I have been looking at music magazines for research, as I have you check which ones would be suitable for my artist, so that the target audience would be able to see the advert.
While looking I found several different music magazines, one being Kerrang. While looking at Kerrang I found that it is not a suitable magazine to advertise with, as it would not suit my target audience, even if it did have the the right average age of readers it is not the right genre for my artist, and therefore the target audience.
Another music magazine that I found to be unsuitable for my target audience - therefore my artist - is 'Top of the Pops'. This magazine was the right genre for my artist and target audience, but the magazines target audience are 11-15 year olds, thus not the right age for my target audience, so if I advertise with this magazine my demographic won't be hit.
The music magazine I have decided to advertise in is 'Q' as it's a mixed media magazine, therefore would be suitable for my artist and target audience, as Christina Grimmie attracts a target audience with a wide range of music taste and not just pop. This is because of her YouTube covers that cover a wide range of genres, not just pop, so when her album came out she already had fans of multiple genres, so a mixed media magazine would be perfect for the target audience.

Research: Conventions of an Advertisement
Looking at the conventions of a music magazine advertisement I have discovered the following;
Edit Testing :
I have decided to try some ideas for my music magazine advertisement. This was my original idea:
I will use a shot of my artist with their hear titled away from the camera, I've decided to use a shot like this because it looks more artistic and looks more realistic, whereas when artists look down the camera lens it looks fake.
Construction : Editing

This is the image I chose to be y magazine advertisement. I chose this image because out of the 15 I took, I believed that this one would attract the target audience the most, because this is an image that bares the most used codes and conventions for the genre and target audience.
Therefore, the target audience will be able to recognise this as an album in their preferred genre and thus be interested in it.
When editing I changed my music magazine advert into black and white first - this was to link up with both My music video and CD digipack. I did this by clicking 'enhance' and then 'convert to black and white' moving the slider to find the shades I wanted.

Next I went to the filter gallery where I chose 'diffuse glow' adding that to my image, Changing some of the sliders to find the perfect one that I was looking for.

As well as adding the sponge filter, this was to smooth out the harshness that was the diffused glow filter.

Next I added the lens flare to my image, I had tried this previously when planning my music magazine advert and really liked the effect, making me want to add it to my 'real' music magazine advert.
I moved the flare to the top right corner of the image, so that it didn't obscure the face too much, yet still give extra light to the hair and to the face.
After doing this I then started adding the titles, First trying them in a burgundy red colour, deciding that it is too hard to read, and then changing the colour to black. With white writing at the bottom of my magazine advert.
However, this was my first idea, so I changed it into a jpeg. But, after looking at it I realised that it was too simple and didn't follow any codes or conventions of real life music magazine. Thus, helping me to decide to stick with the image as I had edited it, but changing the text and information on the music magazine, so it would be more informative, more interesting, and following more of the codes and conventions withing music magazine adverts, which I had previously researched.

I decided to keep the 'Christina Grimmie' and 'BRAND NEW ALBUM' but move them around, thus creating more space.
Firstly, I moved the 'Christina Grimmie' further up.

Next, I started to add more information on the album underneath 'BRAND NEW ALBUM', playing around with whether to have them in capitols or not.

Then I was moving the text around, to see where I could put it, so that there would be more space on the advert and so that the attention wouldn't be diverted from the artist.

Then after adding the text in, I realised that it was hard to read and not very clear. S, I decided to look in a music magazine for help. that is where I saw the Larkin Poe advertisement. which gave me an idea to put my important white text within a black rectangle going across my advert.
So, I added the rectangle,
Placed the text on top and then decreased the opaqueness so that you would be able to still see the artist underneath the information box.
Finally, I added the artist's social media information, artist's official website and record label logo underneath the black box on the magazine advert. I placed it underneath because, there, the text was still visible and easy to read, where the other wasn't. And after doing this, I exported my complete music magazine advertisement as a jpeg, as it was now complete.

From here I applied multiple filters to see what they would look like and see if thats the look I want for my music magazine.
